World Economic Forum Selects On-Ramp Wireless for Technology Pioneer Award

ONE OF THIRTY-ONE VISIONARY COMPANIES SELECTED, ON-RAMP’S GROUNDBREAKING INNOVATION LOWERS THE COST OF WIRELESS MONITORING AND ENABLES NEW APPLICATIONS FOR LOWER ENERGY USE AND RESOURCE CONSUMPTION

San Diego, Calif. – September 1, 2010On-Ramp Wireless today received the World Economic Forum’s 2011 Technology Pioneer Award. Recognized for its Ultra-Link Processing™ (ULP) Wireless Networking System, On-Ramp has developed the first wireless system capable of demodulating signals below the noise floor at never before achieved levels, while simultaneously enabling efficient use of spectrum to connect millions of low data-rate and low power devices. This innovation enables a 600x network coverage advantage and 25-40 times throughput efficiency advantage over competing protocols which results in an order of magnitude reduction in network infrastructure. The system is being used for metro-scale critical infrastructure monitoring within Smart Grid, water efficiency, building efficiency, location tracking and security applications.

Selection as a Technology Pioneer is the result of a vigorous process, for which the Forum received more than 330 applications from around the world which were evaluated by 68 global technology experts. Through the selection process this year, the Forum witnessed the ever-increasing importance of finding clean and green solutions to meet the world’s energy and consumer needs, reflected both in the number of candidacies received in the clean tech sector and in the final number of Technology Pioneers selected in that category.

“The World Economic Forum is proud to recognize an outstanding group of innovative companies as Technology Pioneers for 2011,” said André Schneider, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of the World Economic Forum. “Their technologies and business models will have a durable and valuable effect in several industries and society as a whole. We look forward to their unique contributions to the mission of the Forum: improving the state of the world.”

“On-Ramp is extending wireless to address the challenging requirements of the Smart Grid and has the potential to revolutionize applications for energy and water efficiency,” said John Bryson, Advisory Board Member and retired Chairman and CEO of Edison International. “Wireless monitoring is the future of resource efficiency and it is exciting to hear all the positive feedback on the company and technology. Selection by the Forum is an outstanding additional proof point.”

“Our groundbreaking wireless innovation has the ability to radically lower the cost of deploying and operating energy efficiency and resource efficiency applications around the globe,” said Joaquin Silva, President and CEO of On-Ramp. “We are thrilled to receive the Technology Pioneer award, and are looking forward to participating in the Forum.”
