Gas Utilities
Gas AMR and distribution monitoring application
Gas metering presents a challenge not found in electric smart metering; the solution must run on battery power. This means that any wireless system for gas metering must be ultra-low power and support upwards of 20 years of battery-life. Additional challenges are presented by the location of most gas meters; often in basements or hardened enclosures. These items present an impenetrable challenge to existing wireless technologies.
Not so for Ultra-Link Processing™ (ULP) from On-Ramp Wireless. The ULP system provides wide-area coverage and sufficient capacity to support tens of thousands of gas meters for AMR, within the coverage of even a single On-Ramp wireless ULP Access Point. With a multi-AP network, entire countries can be covered, with low cost, robust and simple network architecture.
On-Ramp Wireless’ breakthrough system delivers an ultra-efficient over-the-air protocol, which, coupled with smart wireless module design, provides battery life of greater than 20 years for some applications.
Additionally, due to the systems high capacity, a single ULP network can support multiple service area applications. A network installed for Gas AMR can easily be expanded to also support leak detection and cathodic protection applications within the coverage area. All this within a simple and secure network infrastructure, with a “utility grade” headend application, supporting Intelligent Data Integrity and connectivity to utility back-office systems.
