On-Ramp Wireless Expands Advisory Board with Addition of Retired QUALCOMM Co-Founder

A WIRELESS VISIONARY, DR. VITERBI SHARES EXCITEMENT OF INNOVATIVE USE OF DIGITAL WIRELESS IN AUTOMATING THE SMART GRID

San Diego, Calif. – March 15, 2011 – On-Ramp Wireless today announced Dr. Andrew Viterbi has joined its Strategic Advisory Board. Dr. Viterbi was attracted to On-Ramp Wireless’ innovative use of spread spectrum technology to help solve coverage and capacity challenges now being encountered in the Smart Grid and large scale sensor networking systems.

Dr. Viterbi is a highly respected leader in the business and technical community. He is a co-founder and retired Vice Chairman and Chief Technical Officer of QUALCOMM Incorporated. His principal research contribution, the Viterbi Algorithm, is used in most digital cellular phones and digital satellite receivers, as well as in such diverse fields as magnetic recording, voice recognition and DNA sequence analysis.

More recently, he concentrated his efforts on establishing CDMA as the multiple access technology of choice for cellular telephony and wireless data communication. He is currently president of the Viterbi Group, a technical advisory and investment company. He also serves as a Presidential Chair Visiting Professor at the University of Southern California and a distinguished Visiting Professor at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

“On-Ramp is an example of the exciting and vibrant wireless innovation that is possible in the Smart Grid space, and I am excited to join the team and offer my advice in any way possible,” said Dr. Viterbi. “Applications of star topology, high processing gain, spread spectrum systems such as those developed by On-Ramp enhance resilience to interference for applications where robustness, capacity efficiency and low power are critical. Spectral efficiency is now becoming more important, even in free spectrum, due to the sheer number of devices needed to be deployed in the field to enable resource efficiency. On-Ramp’s ULP technology is at the forefront of what wireless communication is capable of.”

“On-Ramp is honored to be joined by such a distinguished member of the wireless technology and business community,” said Joaquin Silva, President and CEO of On-Ramp. “Dr. Viterbi’s knowledge from his years in the industry and eminence as a technology pioneer is invaluable as we continue to bring our Ultra-Link Processing™ technology to the market.”

About On-Ramp Wireless
On-Ramp Wireless has developed the first wireless system purpose-built to efficiently connect billions of hard-to-reach devices in metro scale and other challenging environments. On-Ramp’s field-proven Ultra-Link Processing™ system enables low-power monitoring and control applications within Smart Grid, water efficiency, industrial sensing, and location tracking. Operating in un-licensed spectrum, our signal processing innovation finds weak signals even in high noise environments, yielding extreme coverage, immunity to high interference, and significantly lowers cost.
