Remote Monitoring Unit

Remote sensing platform for a variety of monitoring applications

Smart Grid Remote Monitoring Unit

The On-Ramp Wireless Ultra-Link Processing™ Remote Monitoring Unit (RMU) is an intelligent-sensing system that integrates with existing deployed devices, providing robust, wide area monitoring capabilities. The flexibility to monitor a range of analog and digital sensor devices delivers a monitoring platform well suited for the Smart Grid and other customized applications. The RMU is initially tested to support wide area centralized automated monitoring of solar and line powered obstruction lights according to the FAA AC No. 70/7460-1K.

Deploying the RMU eliminates the need for utility companies to visually inspect obstruction lights. This leads to significant operational savings and a detailed audit trail of device status and automated notification of actionable alarms and events. The RMU is tested and proven in harsh outdoor utility environments typical of high voltage transmission lines and substations. The system can be integrated with a number of similar field applications.

Key Features

Wireless monitoring of obstruction lighting in compliance with FAA regulations

Flexible design enables the monitoring of devices through industry-standard interfaces

Automatic detection and alarm notification of light outages

24/7 operations with configurable update intervals

Low power design uses aviation light’s solar recharged battery or a 120VAC source for power

Back-up battery for continued alarm notification during main battery failure

Solar panel charging system monitoring and alarm

Tested in high EMF and EMI environments typical in up to 500KV transmission lines and substations
