On-Ramp Wireless and Cubic Develop Sophisticated GPS Tracking Device for Military Training

New Safety & Security Management System combines innovative wireless
technology and proven military expertise

San Diego, Calif. – January 19, 2010 – On-Ramp Wireless today announced its strategic partnership with Cubic Defense Applications, Inc., the defense systems business of Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB), to develop a sophisticated GPS-enabled tracking device. On-Ramp will provide the wireless communications link for a Cubic-developed Safety & Security Management System (SSMS) via its innovative wireless networking technology, the Ultra-Link Processing™ (ULP) system. With its wide-area coverage, high capacity and ultra low power consumption, the ULP system is ideal for this type of application.

Cubic’s SSMS is a GPS-enabled tracking system that will be used primarily at government facilities such as military bases, posts, training ranges, and high-security energy production facilities. The development of the SSMS reinforces and enhances Cubic’s strong position in the Live Combat Training market, and will open opportunities in other security and asset tracking related markets.

“Cubic is delighted to join forces with one of the true visionary companies in today’s wireless space,” said Ray Barker, Executive Vice President of Cubic Defense Applications. “This partnership helps us enhance the value of our current market leading solutions, and it pushes the door open to the new, and rapidly growing, segment for personnel and asset tracking services.”

The ULP system provides a 600x network coverage advantage and 25x capacity efficiency advantage compared to competing free spectrum protocols. Additionally, On-Ramp’s ULP system is the first to be able to demodulate signals below the noise floor while effectively maintaining high network capacity, low power consumption, and low system cost.

Cubic Defense Applications provides fixed and deployable Combat Training Center instrumentation, laser engagement systems, and homeland security and CBRNE training systems to all branches of the US military, government agencies, and 46 allied nations. It is a leader in systems integration and advanced readiness systems to support all levels of training, including single service, joint, combined and multinational missions. Cubic has delivered a significant majority of the currently fielded Combat Training Centers (CTCs) worldwide and is currently delivering the Army’s next-generation MILES Individual Weapon System as well as advanced urban training instrumentation.

“On-Ramp could not be more pleased to put our name next to one of the true technology leaders in our region, and worldwide,” said Joaquin Silva, president and CEO of On-Ramp. “Cubic has a strong tradition for innovation and we are excited to be part of driving that tradition forward.”

The Cubic SSMS is expected to go to market in the second quarter of 2010, with initial field deployments already in the planning stages.
