Contract Technical Writer

Job Description

The Contract Technical Writer is responsible for development and production of high-quality technical communications and documentation such as white papers, product specifications, user’s guides, installation guides, training materials and product collateral in both print and eMedia layout. This contract position focuses primarily on design, development, editing, quality assurance, and publishing of product information delivered to customers and partners, as well as to support internal training and communications.

  • Performs document audience/task analysis, outline development, content specification, assembly, review facilitation, and final publishing to support marketing, product management, engineering, and operations teams in the development of technical documentation projects.
  • Manages documentation delivery to plan; addresses delivery, quality or schedule issues directly with project team members, or as appropriate, with management escalation.
  • Performs desktop publishing services and establishes standards for technical documentation (e.g., product data sheets, product specifications, whitepapers, technical bulletins).
  • Utilizes publishing software to develop product diagrams, graphs and charts from sketches provided by technical authors.
  • Uses document control system to implement document management requirements and manage documentation release and distribution.

• Demonstrated, hands-on experience publishing technical documentation (datasheets, product specifications, user’s guides) and editing content for distribution to other outlets (FAQs, website, etc).
• Demonstrated, hands-on design and layout proficiency.
• Proficiency with tools such as MS Office suite, Adobe software suite, Visio, or other publishing software tools.
The following traits are highly valued:
• Demonstrated understanding of standard wireless system and semiconductor technical documentation content and publishing.
• Experience with website development software and functionality, including Flash, Dreamweaver, html, search and social media experience a plus.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, Journalism or a related discipline and 5-10 years experience in technical writing, editing and desktop publishing/graphic design.
